WinRAR puts you ahead of the crowd when it comes to compression. By consistently creating smaller files, WinRAR is usually faster than the competition. This will save you disk space, transmission costs and valuable work time as well.
Characteristics:
- WinRAR supports all popular compression formats (RAR, ZIP, CAB, ARJ, LZH, ACE, TAR, GZip, UUE, ISO, BZIP2, Z, and 7-Zip).
- WinRAR is ideal for multimedia files. WinRAR automatically recognizes and selects the best compression method. The special compression algorithm especially compresses multimedia files, executables and object libraries.
- WinRAR allows you to split files into separate volumes easily, allowing you to save them to multiple disks, for example.
- WinRAR is also ideal if you send data through the web. Its 128-bit password encryption and authenticated signature technology will give you the peace of mind you're looking for.
- WinRAR is shareware, which means you have the opportunity to try it thoroughly. The program can be used totally free for 40 days!
- WinRAR licenses are valid for all language versions and platforms available. If you have purchased multiple licenses, you can even mix versions to suit your personal needs.
- WinRAR offers you all future UPDATES for FREE!
What's New:
- WinRAR and the RAR command line use the RAR 5.0 file format by default. You can change it to a format compatible with RAR 4.x with the option "RAR4" in the file dialog box or the command-line change -ma4. If you fancy the RAR 4.x format by default, use the "Create default ..." button on the "Compression" page of the WinRAR settings and set "RAR4" in the dialog box that appears. This change affects only new clean installations. If you already saved the RAR format in the default compression profile in previous versions, WinRAR respects the stored settings.
- Use the "Set Master Password" button in the "Organize Passwords" dialog box to encrypt the saved password records and protect them from unauthorized access. If the saved passwords are protected with the master password, you must enter the master password and press "OK" on the password prompt to access them. If the password entered does not match the master password, it is treated as a normal password for file operations. Once entered, the master password is valid until WinRAR is closed. Close WinRAR and re-open it after specifying the master password if you want to see how protection works. Enter a valid master password and then empty to remove encryption from previously protected password registers. This version of WinRAR uses a new data format for the password organizer, so the passwords stored in the "Organize passwords" dialog box are not legible in previous versions. It does not modify file encryption formats and encrypted files are compatible with previous versions of WinRAR. The organizer data is converted to a new format only when you save them and not immediately after installing WinRAR.
- A suggestion is shown for setting the master password when a password is stored in the compression profile. You can enter the master password to encrypt password data stored in the Registry and protect it from unauthorized access. You must enter the master password in the password request dialog to access that compression profile after that. Once entered, the master password is valid until WinRAR is closed. Close WinRAR and re-open it after specifying the master password if you want to see how protection works.
- By default, WinRAR uses AES-256 in CTR mode to encrypt ZIP files. While AES-256 is significantly more secure than the legacy encryption algorithm ZIP 2.0, it may be incompatible with some previous decompression software. If compatibility with such tools is required, you can enable the "Legacy ZIP Encryption" option in the password dialog box or use the -meal switch in command line mode.
- Added extraction support for.LZ files created by the Lzip compressor.
- Modern TAR tools can store high-precision file times, long file names, and large file sizes in specially extended PAX headers within the TAR file. WinRAR now supports such PAX headers and uses them when extracting TAR files.
- The new "Store Modification Time" option on the "Time" page of the archive dialog box can be used to prohibit storing of file modification time in RAR 5.x files. The previous option "High precision modification time" is replaced by "High precision time format".
- New option "Full paths in the title bar" in the "Configuration / General" dialog box. If enabled, the full path of the currently open folder or file is displayed in the WinRAR title bar.
- New option "File types to open as files first" in "Settings / Compression". Here you can define how to Enter or double-click a file with a non-file extension and the file contents must be processed in the file list of WinRAR in file management mode. Examples of such files are .docx or self-extracting .exe files. You can tell WinRAR to open the files first as files or to run or open them in associated programs. The default setting is to open the self-extracting homepage and run other file types with a non-file extension. Regardless of these options, you can always open any such file by pressing Ctrl + PgDn on your behalf in the WinRAR file list. The default folders for compressed and extracted files are moved from "Configuration / Compression" to "Settings / Routes".
- The new command "Copy full names to the clipboard" in the "File" menu places the full names of the selected files in the clipboard.
- Changes in the context menu that appears when you right click on the list of files in WinRAR: a) several commands, which are also present in the toolbar or in the main menu, such as "View" and "Repair", are deleted from this context menu; b) Add the command "Copy full names to the clipboard"; c) "Run" for executables, "Open in the associated application" for associated files and "Show file contents" for the added files. They allow you to choose a way to process SFX files and archive files with non-file extensions. These elements are only present in the file management mode and are not available within the files.
- LZ and ZIPX are added to a list of associations in the Configuration / Integration dialog box.
- The LZ and ZIPX extensions are added to the default list of format changes of formats ("Specify file types to store") invoked without parameters.
- You can specify the 'f' charset value in the -sc switch to using UTF-8 encoding. For example, rar to -CFL arcname @ filelist.txt to read the contents of filelist.txt as UTF-8 text.
- The "lt" and "vt" RAR commands display file times to nanosecond precision. Such precision is used in RAR5 files created by RAR / Unix 5.50 and later. Files created by WinRAR have 100ns of archive time accuracy.
- Only the precision modifiers '+', '-' and '1' are compatible in -ts change now. Use '+' to store the time of the file with the highest precision, '-' to skip the time of the file and '1' to store it with a precision of 1 second. The intermediate precision modes previously defined with the modifiers '2' and '3' are not available in the RAR 5.0 file format and are ignored by the -ts switch.
- If an incorrect password is entered when unpacking an encrypted file into a RAR5 file, WinRAR proposes to enter a valid password for the same file again instead of aborting the extraction.
- The file path information is displayed if the mouse pointer is placed over a file name in the progress window of the operation.
- The name of the currently active compression profile is displayed in the archiving dialog box on the "Profiles ..." button.
- If the "Search" command is invoked from inside the subfolder of files, "File names to search" will include the path to this subfolder. Then, "Search" will search only from this subfolder.
- Bugs fixed:
- fixed locks and security vulnerability when unpacking corrupt RAR files
- WinRAR was unable to decompress ZIP files compressed with the XZ algorithm and encrypted with AES
- if the "Windows progress bars" option was disabled in the WinRAR configuration and the "Put each file in the separate file" file mode was used, the "golden" part of the total progress bar did not correctly display the ratio of compressed data
- The progress of SFX file extraction was incorrect for the multi-volume SFV file with a total volume greater than 4 GB
- if the name of the archived folder included trailing spaces if the user selected and extracted some folders in the non-root files folder and if the "Allow incompatible names" extraction option was disabled, WinRAR might lose one or more initial characters in the name of the extracted folder
- if only the creation or just the last hour of the access file was stored in the RAR5 file with a precision of 1 second, as with the -ma5 -tsm--tsa1 switches, this stored time was ignored when extracting.
