This browser, although fairly close to Gecko-based browsers like Mozilla Firefox and SeaMonkey in the way it works, relies on a different engine design and offers a different set of features. It aims to provide close adherence to official web standards and specifications in its implementation (with minimum commitment) and deliberately excludes a number of features to achieve a balance between general use, performance and technical advancements in the web.

With the current generation of conventional browsers, there are also more obvious differences, not just "under the hood": Pale Moon will continue to provide decently sized clustered navigation buttons, a default marker bar, tabs next to Content by page Defect (easily changeable) and not less a functional status bar and more freedom in personalization, to name a few things.
