NASA World Wind - Zoom any place on Earth
NASA World Wind is an open source virtual world that allows you to virtually visit any place in the world. NASA World Wind uses high-resolution Landsat images and SRTM elevation data that allow you to zoom in from the altitude of the satellite to any place on Earth and experience a rich 3D visualization.
NASA World Wind was specifically designed for ease of use so anyone can fully enjoy the program using just a mouse. A simple and straightforward menu offers additional functions and guides, browsing is done with just a single mouse click and you can easily type in any location and zoom in automatically.
NASA World Wind requires only a video card with 3D acceleration. Requires the DirectX and the.NET run-time environment. In case you do not have them, the NASA World Wind installation will provide the addresses of the web pages from which they can be downloaded.
Note: NASA World Wind contains, by default, data you can magnify, but the program will automatically download more images after a while. The servers that host this data are very busy and may often stop responding. The improvement of the necessary infrastructure is still a work in progress.
